LANSING, MI (WHTC) – Plainwell and South Haven have secured state grants for local park improvements.
The two communities were among 36 across Michigan who will share in 1.4 million dollars from the state DNR’s Recreation Passport Grant program. Plainwell will get 45 thousand dollars for developing a permanent restroom with an accessible walkway for Sherwood Park, while South Haven receives the same amount for renovating the Kids Corner Playground to meet current safety and ADA-accessible standards. The money comes from revenue generated from the sale of year-long vehicle passes for state parks and recreation areas.
Among the other 35 communities who didn’t earn this competitive grant was Grand Haven, who had wanted 25 thousand dollars for improvements to Bolt Park.
