HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – A 50-year-old trucker has lost his life in a crash on Holland’s South Side this morning.
According to Holland Public Safety Captain Robert Buursma, the driver apparently lost control of his semi on the ramp from northbound US-31 to southbound Washington Avenue around 9 AM, drove through the roadway and went through the guardrail. The rig and its trailer landed on its side in a culvert, and the driver was pronounced dead at the scene by the Allegan County Medical Examiner’s Office. Witnesses told responding Public Safety officers that the truck did not slow down for the exit.
M-DOT crews were called in to make repairs. The driver and the trucking company which he was driving for were from Illinois, but other information was not immediately disclosed as the crash remains under investigation. Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or the actions of the driver beforehand is asked to call Holland Public Safety (616-355-1100)
