BYRON TWP., MI (WHTC) – A barn about a mile east of the Ottawa-Kent county line burned to the ground overnight.
Crews from at least two departments responded to the 2:45 AM blaze in the 45 hundred block of Penny Lane in Byron Township, in the vicinity of M-6 and Wilson Avenue. A bridge, a long driveway and overhanging trees hampered efforts in getting to the scene and in bringing the flames, which went up at times to 40 feet high, under control. No injuries to first responders were reported.
Neighbors say that they had heard the sounds of explosions coming from the barn area and a propane tank was found inside by firefighters, but investigators haven’t made a final determination of what ignited the fire.
