UNDATED (WHTC) — Henrik Zetterberg and Darren Helm scored 36 seconds apart late in the third period as the Red Wings edged the Devils 3-1 at Joe Louis Arena. Helm also lit the lamp in the second period for the Wings, who have won three of four since a six-game losing streak. Jimmy Howard had to make just 12 saves for the win. The nation’s capital is set to host the 2015 NHL Winter Classic. This year’s annual outdoor New Year’s Day game has the Washington Capitals hosting the Chicago Blackhawks. Faceoff is at 1 p.m. from Nationals Park.
The Pistons shoot for their fourth straight win tomorrow night against the Knicks at Madison Square Garden. Detroit has taken the first two of its road trip including a 23-point win over the Magic on Tuesday.
The Bulls continue their five-game home stand tonight against Denver at the United Center. Chicago is coming off a 96-82 loss to Brooklyn on Tuesday.
Michigan State and Baylor square off in the Cotton Bowl from the AT&T Stadium in Arlington this afternoon. The Spartans come in at 10-and-2, while Baylor is 11-and-1. Michigan State has won three consecutive bowl games.
Lions head coach Jim Caldwell will lead his team into the wild card playoffs this weekend. In his first year as head coach, the Lions are 11-5 on the season. The Lions are in Dallas to prepare for the game on Sunday. Broadcast on 1450 WHTC gets underway at 3:30 P.M.
