Grand Haven Woman Sentenced in Jonathan Bracamontes Case

HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – The howls of “justice for Jonathan” are expected to be strengthened by family and friends of a 15-year-old Holland Township boy who was struck and killed by a passing motorist. They are upset that no felony charges were filed against Ruth Borgman, whose car hit Jonathan Bracamontes as he stepped in front of it on September 30^th. The 64-year-old Grand Haven woman was in the left lane of southbound US-31 on Holland’s North Side when she told sheriff’s deputies that she though she hit something as she crossed Riley Street at full speed on a green light around 6 AM. With a box truck alongside her at the time, Borgman decided to drive on to her work in Holland, where she promptly called 911. Bracamontes, a West Ottawa High sophomore, died at the scene. Borgman’s clean past and her cooperation in the investigation were factors in the county prosecutor’s office deciding to file misdemeanor hit-and-run charges, which she agreed not to contest. Yesterday, Holland District Court Judge Susan Jonas sentenced her to a year of probation and 100 hours of community service. Family and friends of Bracamontes have begun monthly protests at Borgman’s place of employment and at the Holland District Courthouse.
