GRAND HAVEN, MI (WHTC) – A 50-year-old man was bound over for trial on open murder charges by Grand Haven District Court Judge Craig Bunce.
During yesterday’s preliminary hearing, sheriff’s detectives testified that Michael Roersma allegedly “said a prayer” after pushing the body of his 72-year-old mother Sharon into the Grand River a few miles downstream from the home that they shared south of Coopersville. Fisherman found her corpse on September 29th, and the Ottawa County Medical Examiner’s office ruled that she died from a broken neck apparently caused by a blow to the head.
Roersma has a lengthy criminal record and had been held since the incident in the Ottawa County Jail.
