HOLLAND (WHTC) – Record cold temperatures greeted West Michigan residents this morning. At West Michigan Regional Airport in Holland this morning, the mercury bottomed out at 9-below zero shortly before 3 a.m., breaking the previous record low of 4-below for this date in 1988. In Grand Rapids, it was even colder, as the temperature fell to a record 13-below-zero just before 5:30 this morning. The previous record low for the date was 6-below, also in 1988. Temperatures rebounded into the 20s this afternoon and we could see highs approaching 40 by the weekend.
