UNDATED (WHTC) – The historic Felt Mansion property in Laketown Township could be the site of a solar energy installation project. A Wisconsin based company, Community Green Energy was given approval on a working relationship with the Laketown Township Board on the property in a township meeting on Wednesday night. The township owns the Felt Mansion property including the surrounding Shores Acre Township Park.
The project needs state approval according to Township Manager Al Meshkin, with a potential roadblock being the solar panels may be in violation of a “public use” agreement which was established 48 years ago with the State of Michigan. Laketon Township would not inquire any costs for the solar project, and could receive federal tax credits. Some concern was raised by residents attending the open meeting, mainly that a public park would be a revenue making venue for a private enterprise.
