HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – A 17-year-old Holland man accused of shooting a 22-year-old Chicagoland man to death earlier this month is scheduled for a preliminary hearing in Holland District Court today.
Davon Walker is being charged with manslaughter, and will now have a court-appointed attorney representing him before Judge Brad Knoll this afternoon.
Walker allegedly fired a round into the chest of Derrick Ruff-Shingles at the Harbor Village Apartment unit of his sister on January 5th. Ruff-Shingles, who was reportedly in town looking for work, died at Holland Hospital, while Walker turned himself in four days later. The purported gun was found in a nearby dumpster. Investigators say that there wasn’t any argument or altercation between the two prior to the gunshot.
If convicted, Walker could get up to 15 years in prison. Knoll, who set bond at 200 thousand dollars, could bind Walker over for trial in Allegan County Circuit Court.
