ALLEGAN, MI (WHTC) – A pre-trial hearing is scheduled this afternoon in Allegan County Circuit Court for Ciara Byers. The 23-year-old Grand Haven woman is charged with two counts of drunken driving causing death and causing serious injury stemming from the June 1st crash on M-40 at Babylon Road in Allegan. Prosecutors say that Byers swerved to avoid hitting stopped vehicles in front of her and slammed into a motorcycle head-on, killing 69-year-old Robert Kammeraad and his 68-year-old wife Susan of Holland on the machine. Byers has pleaded not guilty to the charges, and could face up to 15 years in prison if convicted.
