Drivers Escape Fiery Crash on Holland’s North Side

HOLLAND TWP., MI (WHTC) – A 29-year-old Grand Haven man escaped injury when his car caught on fire after a two-vehicle crash on Holland’s North Side overnight. According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Matt Wildfong, Matthew Meara was northbound on 120^th Avenue and was approaching New Holland Street just before 12 Midnight when he swerved to avoid hitting a stopped vehicle ahead of him that was stuck in a snow bank. Meara lost control of his vehicle and slammed head-on into a southbound vehicle, causing it to catch fire. Meara was able to escape safely, and the other driver, 21-year-old Cody Akins of Jenison, was also unhurt. The crash remains under investigation.
