Suspect Arraigned In Grand Haven Coast Guard Break-In

GRAND HAVEN (WHTC) – Matthew Krueger is being held in the Ottawa County jail on a $75,000 bond in connection with Sunday’s incident at the U.S. Coast Guard Station in Grand Haven. The 33-year-old Mears resident was arraigned Monday by 58^th District Judge Craig Bunce on charges of false report or threat of terrorism, and malicious destruction of property of more than $1,000. Grand Haven public safety officials say Krueger rammed his pickup truck into the gate at the Guard station about 6 a.m. Sunday, then broke into the station building and assaulted a Guardsman. Grand Haven Director of Public Safety Jeff Hawke says the suspect claimed to have explosives in his truck. Krueger was contained by Coast Guard members until officers arrived. The suspect has been also linked to a suspicious fire at his Oceana County home. If convicted of the false report or threat of terrorism charge, Krueger could get up to 20 years in prison. He has been scheduled for a February 24th preliminary hearing in 58^th District Court.
