EAST LANSING, MI (WHTC) – After a year’s absence, the Holland/Zeeland area is being represented by two students as Michigan High School Athletic Association Scholar-Athlete Award winners. Kyler Beal of Holland High and Collin DeShaw of West Ottawa were among 14 from Class A schools and 32 overall tabbed for their efforts in the classroom, on the athletic field, and in the community, and each had submitted an essay to judges about the importance of sportsmanship in educational athletics. Beal is a three-year varsity soccer letter-winner and is currently a member of the Dutch basketball team; DeShaw captained the Panthers’ football team and finished fourth in the state diving championships this past fall. The award winners will be honored at the boys’ basketball finals in East Lansing on March 28th.
