-HOLLAND, MI (WHTC)-Ajay Sehgal owns AJ’s Grocery and Liquor in the batts Plaza. His Store was the first in Zeeland to sell takeout liquor in 2009. He wants to put a “beer cave” so he can sell large cases of beer, but says the city’s current alcohol ordinance limits how much space he can set adise for beer and wine sales to 25 percent of total retail space. Sehgal wants to see the limit boosted to 40 percent, saying adding the beer cave will allow him to cut down on how much time he spends in the cooler restocking. He says he’s responding to customer demand. A recent city inspection tied to AJ’s liquor license application found he exceeded the 25 percent threshold, but officials say Sehgal has taken steps to correct the violation. The City Council would have to approve raising the limit.
