LANSING, MI (WHTC) – The Michigan Department of Agriculture has ordered a recall of turkey lunch meat from Holland-based Earl’s Meats for possible listeria contamination.
Samples of the meat sold between February 24th and March 3rd tested positive for the bacteria that can cause serious symptoms in the young, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems, although there have been no cases thus far reported of anyone afflicted. Nine pounds of the meat are in question, with owner Earl Bosch telling M-Live that two pounds were sold during the period listed in the recall notice.
More testing is being done, and the market has stopped producing turkey lunch meat until the all-clear is given by state inspectors. Anyone who may have purchased the possibly tainted meat is asked to call Earl’s Meats (616-392-6392).
