FLORIDA (WHTC) – Aircrews from the U.S. Coast Guard Air Station in Traverse City are assisting in the search-and-rescue mission in Florida.
The crews were already deployed on a proficiency hoist training session in Destin, Florida this week. They have now been rerouted to assist in the rescue mission.
Reports say Seven marines and four soldiers were aboard the Black Hawk helocopter when it crashed Tuesday evening off Santa Rosa Island’s Navarre Beach, in the Gulf of Mexico. The crash occurred amid dense fog and misty rain.
Holland native Staff Sgt. Andrew Seif is reported to have been aboard the crashed helicopter.
