
G. Thomas Boylan of Saugatuck, Michigan passed away at the age of 99 on February 4, 2022, after a brief illness.
Mr. Boylan was born on November 5, 1922, in Piqua, Ohio, and graduated from Piqua High School on June 5, 1941. After high school, Mr. Boylan served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged on July 9, 1943. Shortly after being discharged from the service, Mr. Boylan moved to West Michigan. In 1945, Light Metals Corporation, located in Wyoming, Michigan, hired Mr. Boylan as a supervisor. In 1948, Mr. Boylan met and married his first wife Helen Marie Boylan (Swanson), with whom Mr. Boylan had three sons Michael Nelson Boylan, Thomas Jeffrey Boylan, and John Bradford Boylan. Mr. Boylan was entrepreneurial by nature and eventually bought into the ownership of Light Metals Corporation. He later became Light Metals’ President and Chief Executive Officer, positions that he actively held until his death. In 1981, Mr. Boylan married his second wife Nancy J. Boylan. Mr. Boylan was one of the west Michigan business leaders who organized Macatawa Bank in 1997 and served on Macatawa Bank’s board of directors until 2009.
Mr. Boylan is survived by two sons, Thomas Jeffrey Boylan (Kathy) and John Bradford Boylan (Sue), six grandchildren Andrew Boylan (Katie), Daniel Boylan (Lucy), Clayton Boylan, Blair Boylan, Brock Boylan (Jaronsa), and Nathan Michael Boylan (Lauren), and four great-grandchildren. Mr. Boylan’s family acknowledge and thank Rhonda Zolman and Michael Bradcoski who were Mr. Boylan’s long-time, trusted colleagues and friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 11, 2022, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Dykstra Funeral Home, 520 Lake Street, Saugatuck, MI 49453. Immediately after the period of visitation, the family will hold a private memorial service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Saugatuck Center for the Arts, 400 Culver Street, Saugatuck, MI 49453.
