Saugatuck, MI (WHTC) – It may cost a few more dollars to soak in the sun at Oval Beach in Saugatuck this summer. The Saugatuck City Council is considering raising the parking fee this year to help combat the costs of repaving the parking lot. Since 2009, it has cost $6 to park at Oval Beach for the day and $40 for a season pass. The cost of repaving the parking lot is estimated at $210,000 and expanding the parking lot would cost another $65,000, according to the Holland Sentinel. Saugatuck City Council is now discussing raising the day-pass cost to $7 or $8 and $50 for a season pass. The Council also wishes to add a credit card payment option for beach goers, which the rising cost of passes will also help alleviate those expenses.
