HOLLAND TWP., MI (WHTC) – Two separate crashes hospitalized two Holland women on Holland’s North Side on Monday.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant David VanderPloeg, 59-year-old Debra Barrow was driving eastbound on James Street, while trucker Enes Bajric was southbound on US-31 around 7 AM. Barrow drove through a red light, and her vehicle was struck by Bajric’s rig that was going through on a green light. Barrow was taken to Holland Hospital, where she is expected to recover from non-life threatening injuries. Bajric, a 46-year-old Grand Rapids man, was not hurt.
Later on, two Holland women trying to beat the traffic light at the same time failed in the afternoon. According to VanderPloeg, 27-year-old Sophia Dela-Rosa was southbound on 120th Avenue around 3:15 PM, while 32-year-old Alicia Walters had stopped her northbound vehicle, waiting for traffic to clear in order to turn left onto Lakewood Boulevard between Holland and Zeeland. Dela-Rosa saw a yellow light and tried to go straight through, while Walters claimed that the light had changed to red and wanted to complete her turn. The collision caused Walters’ vehicle to roll over, and while she refused treatment at the scene for bumps and bruises, Dela-Rosa was taken to Holland Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Both crashes remains under investigation.
