MADISON, WI (WHTC) – As far as counties go in Michigan, Ottawa is the healthiest.
So says the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute, which issued its sixth annual County Health Rankings & Roadmaps report nationwide on Wednesday. Organizers say that the rankings measure vital health factors, including high school graduation rates, obesity, smoking, unemployment, access to healthy foods, quality of air and water, income and teen births in a “snapshot” that provides a “starting point” for change in communities.
Ottawa County placed first among Michigan’s 82 ranked counties in Health Outcomes and second in Health Factors, while Allegan was 13th and 21st, respectively. Michigan overall was 34th nationally. The entire report is available through this link.
