Nunica Woman Nods Off, Causes Head-on Crash

SPRING LAKE TWP., MI (WHTC) – A 71-year-old Nunica woman apparently fell asleep behind the wheel and slammed nearly head on with another vehicle near the Muskegon-Ottawa county line late this morning. Karen Zellar was taken to North Ottawa Community Hospital with minor facial injuries following the crash on Apple Drive near Fruitport Road in Spring Lake Township. The other driver involved, 22-year-old Derek Parker of Muskegon, tried and failed to evade a collision; he was unhurt. An investigation continues.
