SOUTH HAVEN, MI (WHTC) – The lighthouse in South Haven will get some upgrades thanks to a 22-thousand dollar state grant. The money from the Michigan Lighthouse Assistance Program will be used to fix the roof of the South Haven Light Keepers Dwelling among other projects.
The money is coming from the sale of specialty license plates, and the state has awarded over one-point-five million in grants since the plate went on sale in 2001.
The largest grant of 45-thousand dollars is being awarded to the Mission Point Lighthouse near Traverse City. Three other lighthouses will recieve grants include the Sand Point Lighthouse in Escanaba, Crisp Point Lighthouse near Newberry and the Charlevoix South Pier Lighthouse.
