SAUGATUCK, MI (WHTC) – Two blocks of downtown Saugatuck were blocked off for about 90 minutes this morning due to a gas leak. A construction crew installing a privacy fence for a Butler Street store completely severed a gas line around 9 AM, causing the evacuation of several buildings. It took about 20 minutes for crews to seal the leak with another hour to clear the air out, before those structures were deemed safe for reentry. There were no injuries reported and damage was contained to the gas line that was cut.
