ZEELAND, MI (WHTC) – A single vehicle crash on I-196 Saturday morning landed one driver in jail and his passenger in the hospital.
Jose Garcia-Perez, 47, of Comstock Park was not injured in the crash and was driving west on I-196 east of Byron Road in Zeeland Township when he was rear-ended by a second vehicle which forced him into a ditch.
The driver in vehicle number two, a 35 year old Grand Rapids man, was not injured and is being held on OWI.
According to Christie Wendt of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department, driver number two drove up behind and struck Garcia-Perez’s vehicle causing it to go into a ditch, while vehicle number one went into the median and rested on the shoulder of the eastbound lane.
The second driver’s passenger, Hugh Idalski, 47, of Wyoming was taken to Zeeland Community Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The crash remains under investigation.
