HOLLAND TWP., MI (WHTC) – A 26-year-old Benton Harbor woman died on Sunday in a single-vehicle, rollover crash around 4:15 AM on Holland’s North Side.
Nickie Thomas was a backseat passenger when she was thrown from a southbound SUV on US-31 before Chicago Drive and died at the scene. Deputies say that the vehicle initially left the roadway and went into the center median. The 36-year-old driver, Kenyada Hornes, tried to get back onto the highway and lost control. The SUV rolled over several times, throwing both Hornes and Thomas, before resting in the northbound lanes.
Hornes and a front-seat passenger, 26-year-old Shalisa Porter, were taken to Holland Hospital and initially listed in serious condition. The entire highway was closed for about four hours after the crash, which remains under investigation.
