HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – A Holland toddler and a Hudsonville man suffered injuries in a crash that closed U.S. 31 north of Fillmore Street for a couple of hours Saturday night.
Five people were transported to area hospitals.
Jeffrey Huyser, 35, of Hudsonville who was driving alone in a GMC Sierra pick-up truck suffered a head injury and was transported to Holland Hospital.
Three-year-old Gabrella Contreras of Holland, suffered a head injury in the crash and was taken to Holland Hospital then transported to Devos Children’s Hospital. Contreras was in a chld restraint seat in the Chevrolet Avalanche driven by Abel Salazar-Rojano, 26, of Holland. He was not injured in the crash.
Carly Mancilla, 28, of Holland was the front seat passsenger in the Avalanche and suffered minor injuries as did another backseat passenger, Jocelyn Molina, 6, of Holland. Both were properly restrained and taken to Holland Hospital.
According to Sgt. Christie Wendt of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s department, the crash occured when Huyser switched lanes traveling at a high speed while towing a boat. He moved into the right lane and struck Salazar-Rajano in the back in of his vehicle.
Deputies, Grand Haven Township firefighters and officers from the Grand Haven Department of Public Safety searched up and down the highway with flashlights, looking for a possible second victim from the pick-up truck says Sgt. Christie Wendt.
Grand Haven firefighters put a firefighter with a thermal imaging camera at the top of their aerial ladder to search for a possible victim, but nothing was found.
The crash remains under investigation.
