HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – Black bear sightings are becoming more and more common in Ottawa County.
Nick Kalej’s who is a wildlife biologist with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources says you’re better off ignoring bears should you have an encounter. He declares never to approach a black bear even though they are generally shy. What they are looking for is food.
Kalej’s says just be smart and limit the access to household garbage, bird feeders, grills and pet foods. If your limit their access to that, your chances of encountering a black bear are slim.
To report a black a black beart sighting in the Holland area, call the DNR field office in Muskegon at 231-788-5055.
