SAUGATUCK, MI (WHTC) – A posting on Facebook offer few details as to the closing of two adjacent downtown Saugatuck restaurants over the weekend. Dave and Ellen Heyer opened Chequers on Culver Street in 1988 and Toulouse French Bistro three years later, as they shared a former stagecoach livery building that was also a one-time fire station. All the couple expressed in the post was thanks for patrons and sadness over leaving the Lakeshore community. Toulouse had closed for the winter this past January.
