ALLENDALE TWP, MI ( WHTC) – A West Olive man had to be extricated from his vehicle after a two-vehicle crash in Allendale Township.
According to Sgt. J. Douglas of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department, Lucas Merritt, 50, of Grant was driving a 1997 Ford Pickup southbound on 68th Avenue when he stopped at a flashing red light. He did not see the the vehicle and proceeded, when he struck Forrest Vanderzwaag, 38, of West Olive who was eastbound on Lake Michigan Drive.
Vanderzwaag was transported to Spectrum Butterworth Hospital where he remains in stable condition. Merritt was not injured in the crash.
Alcohol was not believed to be involved and both drivers were wearing their seatbelts.
The crash remains under investigation.
