HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – Students at Holland High School are keeping up with the new technological age by switching from iPads in the classroom to kids using Chromebooks instead. The Board of Education recently answered a request from district officials to replace the 4-year-old iPads currently in use, the Holland Sentinel reports.
Students are required to use a physical keyboard when completing online assessments by state education obligations and the iPads have no such keyboard. Chromebooks are more similar to laptops and are seen as a better education tool by district officials.
The board approved spending $640,851.75 on 2,400 Dell Chromebook laptops to share among students in grades 3-12. MacBook Air, Mac Mini computers, and classroom projectors were also approved for purchase.
The 2010 Bond Project didn’t initially call for the technology replacement for Holland Public Schools. Due to tight budget constraints on other bond projects however, the district had money left over for the replacements.
