GRAND HAVEN, MI (WHTC) – A Grand Haven man who was using his cell phone while driving, rear-ended a semi truck along SB U.S. 31 yesterday afternoon.
Sgt. Steve Austin of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department says Klye Koestner, 41, struck the semi trailer at approximately 55 miles per hour near Lake Michigan Drive while looking down at his cell phone.
The vehicle became pinned under the trailer and Koestner was able to crawl out the back door with assistance of the sheriff’s deputies.
The driver of the semi, Ali Zakaria, 43 of Brooklyn was not injured in the crash.
Koestner was conscious and alert when transported to Hackley Hospital in Muskegon with non-life threatening injuries.
