LANSING (WHTC) – A lawmaker’s efforts to get an economic SmartZone established in the Holland area is headed to the floor of the state Senate. The Senate Economic Development and International Investment Committee Thursday unanimously passed the legislation, sponsored by Representative Daniela Garcia of Holland, that would add six new satellite SmartZones focused on creating new jobs and attracting high-tech investment. Garcia says Michigan State University’s Bioeconomy Institute in Holland Township would be the center of a Holland-area SmartZone. Garcia’s bill passed the House last week. There are currently three established SmartZones in the state.
