HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – Cuts in state and federal funding and a projected drop in enrollment means the Holland Public Schools will spend 2-million dollars less in the next school year.
The Board of Education Monday approved a 43-point-million dollar spending plan for the 2015-16 fiscal year-down from more then 45-point-7-million from this year. District finance director Dave Zimmer says most of the spending cut more then 1-point-3-million dollars and is the result of funding cuts at the state and federal for at risk students.
In addition, enrollment for the district is expected to drop by 94 students, falling below the 4-thousand mark. The district will have to dip into its reserves by more than 93-thousand dollars. Six teaching positions left vacant by retirement will not be filled. The district is adding an administrator and three behavorial coaches to help teachers better support students and families in the classroom.
