HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – Several Holland Public School buildings will be getting different uses, but not until the 2016-17 school year.
The two bilingual instruction program will move from West K-7 to the Van Raalte building, while the VR Tech learning lab will leave Van Raalte and move to the Holland High campus as a “school within a school” under the facility plan that the school board approved Monday by a 4-2 vote. Superintendent Brian Davis says the two-way bilingual program is meant to improve student proficiency in both Spanish and English.
More than 200 students will be enrolled in the two-way bilingual program this fall. Davis says the move of VR Tech to the high school will allow students to engage with their peers socially and provide extra-curricular opportunities on campus, yet while keeping their identity of the smaller school that the learning lab offers.
The New Tech building will be renamed the Holland Early College.
