ALLEGAN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Jan. 31, 2022) – There will be a new member of the Allegan County Sheriff’s Department soon.
Thanks to a $13,500 donation from the Holland Kennel Club, the department was able to secure the services of a new canine for the K9 department. The program currently has four dogs, which Sheriff Frank Baker says allows for complete coverage of each of the department’s 12-hour shifts. The canines are trained in tracking and drug detection, and also serve in various public appearance duties.
The program is losing the services of Lajki, whom the HKC helped to purchase nearly five years ago, to retirement. The HKC and the Gun Lake Tribe of Pottawatomi Indians are two major financial supporters of the Sheriff’s Department K9 Unit.
