GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WHTC) – The 10th head coach in the 20-year history of the Grand Rapids Griffins was unveiled this morning. Todd Nelson was appointed by the Detroit Red Wings to guide their top AHL farm club, replacing Jeff Blashill, who was elevated to Detroit’s bench boss last month when Mike Babcock left for Toronto. The Griffins also used the occasion to name Tim Gortsema as team president, as Majority Owner and founder Dan DeVos is stepping back from daily operational leadership duties but remains the team’s CEO.
