LANSING, MI (WHTC) – Unemployment rose along the Lakeshore last month, reflecting regional trends statewide that Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget officials say came from a “large” expansion of workers entering the state’s labor pool for summer and seasonal opportunities. Ottawa County still has the lowest jobless rate in Michigan at four percent even, with Allegan County tied for fifth lowest at 4.4 percent. In April, those marks were at 3.1 and 3.8 percent, respectively. Statewide, unemployment in May stood at 5.9 percent, up by more than a percenatge point from the previous month.
