HOLLAND (WHTC) – The Holland City Council Wednesday voted 5-2 to allow a beer and wine tent at the Matt Urban Sports and Recreation Complex for a one-day event later this summer. The tent will be erected on August 22, when the USA men’s national softball team plays a benefit game at the Urban complex, located on 32nd Street just off Lincoln Avenue. Some supporters expressed concern about the increased number of requests for allowing alcohol on city property. Councilmen Mike Trethewey and Todd Whiteman voted against the request, with Trethewey saying the city’s support sends the wrong message. Parks officials say the beer and wine tent will be up for four hours and will be closely monitored.
