ALLENDALE, MI (WHTC) – An Allendale man was injured in a fireworks accident that could have cost him his hands early on Saturday morning. At approximately 4 am, 22-year-old Andrew Ammeraall was with a group of friends in an empty field near 68th Avenue in Allendale. As reported in an Ottawa County press release, Ammeraal was seen by witnesses loading a 60-gram mortar when it blew up in his hands. It is believed that Ammeraal had loaded the slug upside down, causing the explosion. Ammeraal’s hands were injured in the blast and he was take to Spectrum Hospital by Life EMS. Alcohol may have been a factor in the accident.
