GRAND HAVEN, MI (WHTC) – A leaking fuel pump is blamed for catching a boat on fire in the Grand River in Grand Haven yesterday afternoon.
The four people who were able to jump into the water to escape, while the U.S. Coast Guard and Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office Marine division put out the flames.
The four smelled gas as they were coming back in from spending several hours on Lake Michigan and noticed the pump was leaking. After putting a towel on the pump to soak up the fuel, it caught fire as they neared Harbor Island.
