HOLLAND TWP., MI (WHTC) – What caused a 36-year-old Holland Township man to go forward on a red light onto the Lakeshore’s busiest highway and into a two-vehicle collision initially befuddled Ottawa County Sheriff’s deputies around 9:45 AM this morning.
According to Sheriff’s Sergeant Brent Converse, Edward Dupuy had stopped his eastbound vehicle on 8th Street at US-31 east of Holland, while 25-year-old Arkansan Kent Souriyasak was southbound on the trunk road and ready to go through the intersection on a green light. For “some unknown reason,” Dupuy suddenly went forward on the red light and was subsequently broadsided by Souriyasak’s vehicle.
Dupuy and a passenger in Souriyasak’s vehicle, 43-year-old Nakkalay Souriyasak, were taken to Holland Hospital in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries; Kent Souriyasak suffered bumps and bruises. It took crews about a half hour to clean up the scene, blocking 8th Street and a lane of southbound US-31 in the process. All three persons were buckled up as the crash remains under investigation.
