HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – A Holland Township man pleaded no contest on one count of moving violation causing death after he struck and killed a cyclist.
Christopher Allen DenHerder will receive his sentence on Aug. 13 for his misdemeanor charge, and may face up to one year in jail.
The Holland Department of Public Safety reported that DenHerder was driving west on 18th Street at River Avenue when he pulled to a stop in backed-up traffic. Another vehicle motioned DenHerder to continue moving westbound, which is when he struck Rojelio Beltran on his bicycle. Beltran had the right of way when he was traveling northbound.
Beltran was pronounced dead at Holland Hospital after suffering a closed-head injury.
