HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – The Michigan Department of Natural Resources are asking anglers to stop using red swamp crayfish as live bait after several of these dead fish were found near an unnamed fishing area off of Lake Macatawa. The red swamp crayfish are native to Dixie but are considered an invasive species here. DNR crews this week have set crayfish traps and are using seines in an attempt to eradicate this problem, and will work with local groups to incorporate crayfish sampling in Lake Mac monitoring.
