Holland City Council Delays Action on Alcohol Use at Civic Center

HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – Due primarily to having just seven of nine members on hand on Wednesday evening, the Holland City Council postponed taking any action on lifting the sunset provision of a one-year trial period of allowing alcohol sales at the Holland Civic Center. Only the Tulip Time Festival exercised that option over the past 12 months, with City Manager Ryan Cotton saying that there were several other inquiries and one application rejected due to timing issues. There were no reported problems during the Tulip Time event with liquor. The ordinance was slated to expire on July 31st, and the “indefinate” postponement offered by Councilman Dave Hoekstra means that it will “sunset.” Council is expected to take up the matter again next month when all members should be back in town from scheduled vacations.
