WEST OLIVE, MI (WHTC) – It’s “Mission Accomplished” for part of a bike path between Holland and Grand Haven.
The Ottawa County Planning Commission challenged cycle enthusiasts along the Lakeshore and beyond to come up with 60 thousand dollars in two weeks through an online crowdfunding campaign, or a planned repaving of Lakeshore Drive between Butternut Drive and New Holland Street next month would not include a four foot-wide bike lane adjacent to the motoring roadway.
While pledges were only a third of the way to the goal as this week began, with a Friday deadline looming, Ottawa County Road Commissioner contractors came back with a lower-than-expected paving costs that made the bike path possible with funds already on hand and pledged. The crowdfunding collection will continue, though, with any additional pledges going to a fund for other non-motorized pathway projects in Ottawa County.
