HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – Project Clarity and over 30 community partners present the Macatawa Water Festival at Windmill Island Gardens. Children of all ages will learn about Lake Macatawa and the Macatawa Watershed.
The public is welcome free of charge to enjoy a day of interactive educational experiences, water and land activities, and fun-filled family time; experiences designed to engage young and old to learn about restoring and preserving our lake and watershed.
In Windmill Island’s Pavilion, guests can purchase a buffet lunch offering products from local Michigan farmers. Students of all ages will receive a Macatawa Watershed Explorer Handbook to continue their journey on the island learning about our lake and watershed.
Three Educational Areas; Cultural History of our Watershed, The Living Watershed, and Restoring our Watershed, will feature activities where guests can experiment, engage, and learn how to care about our lake and watershed. Land and Water Activities will be available for guests of all ages.
Children can fish for trout in ponds, have their catch filleted and take it home for dinner. Guides will take guests kayaking around the island, pointing out the natural assets of our watershed while others try their skill on paddle boards and old-fashioned bikes. Workshops will feature topics on water and bike safety, building a campfire, backpacking, water testing, building a dug-out canoe, making a rain barrel, and identifying plants in our watershed.
Watershed Explorer Ambassadors will help young explorers with activities and crafts to help them learn about what a watershed does, what’s happening in our watershed and how they can make a difference to the water quality in Lake Macatawa and the Macatawa Watershed.
