MIDLAND, MI (WHTC) – A report from the Mackinac Center for Public Policy claims that nearly 71 percent of school districts statewide currently contract out food service, custodial work and/or transportation to private-sector vendors. The survey of 384 districts showed an increase of about five percent from 2014, and compares with 31 percent of districts in the first such poll taken in 2001. Locally, Holland, West Ottawa, Saugatuck and Fennville do contract out, while Zeeland and Hamilton do not.
