HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – Two weeks after the Holland City Council rejected the renewal of a lodging license to the Economy Inn, co-owner Hermant Patel was back before the panel again on Wednesday evening, hoping that improvements he has made to the establishment off of 16th Street and US-31 are enough to reopen the motel. Twice in the past two years the city closed the doors of the Inn due to numerous code violations, but a recent staff inspection was satisfactory enough for them to recommend Council’s approval.
On a 7-1 vote, the Council did concur, with the lone dissenter being First Ward Councilman Mike Trethewey, who had also voted against the renewal last month.
Patel had earlier told Council that he will personally take over operations at the motel in an effort to ensure its continued compliance with the city code.
