Back to flying solo again.
Today (Jan. 21, 2022) was Peg’s last day with us after nearly four years as the morning News Anchor at WHTC. She had an extensive background in print journalism before she joined us part time in 2016, with one of her first days coming on the first Monday in March that we all found out about the death of Juke Van Oss.
While she was savvy as a reporter, she needed to learn about the immediacy and brevity of broadcast journalism, and telling a story in print is not the same as telling a story verbally. Peg was able to develop those skills during her time with us, and she was a willing learner about all of the aspects of our craft.
We didn’t see eye-to-eye on several things which were apparent on the air, but we respected each other’s position and “agreed to disagree” more often than not. Peg regarded me as a “sibling,” while I commended her on her professionalism during her time with us.
Peg’s new adventure takes her back to near her Detroit-area roots, to covering county government for the Oakland Press in Pontiac. While she will have print/digital deadlines to meet, she will no longer have to be as sharp verbally in her reporting, and she will no longer have to be a “morning person” that this position here demands.
We will miss Peg, but we thank her for her service to our community, not only with us, but during her time in print journalism. As she looks forward to her new adventure, we look forward to whoever will step forward to join our reporting team.
Thanks!
