LANSING, MI (WHTC) – The final Adopt-A-Highway pickup of the year will mark the completion of the 25th anniversary of the Michigan Department of Transportation program.
Thousands of volunteers will be scouring the roadsides looking for trash from Saturday September 26 through October 4, 2015. Since 1990, when the program started, every year volunteers collect about 70,000 bags of trash, for a total of more than 2 million bags in 25 years.
Motorists should be on the lookout for volunteers wearing high-visibility, yellow-green safety vests according to MDOT.Volunteers include members of civid groupd, businesses and families. Crew members have to be at least 12 years old and each group must number three people.
